El mercado está lleno de catálogos sobre qué lecturas debería tener uno sobre la mesilla de noche, a lo largo de la vida. Como no hay tiempo de leerlo todo, aseguran, se hace necesario acotar la calidad de la lectura.

Entramos, entonces, en un terreno resbaladizo, opinable y tramposo. En 1001 libros que leer antes de morir, proponen un listado de lecturas que, modestamente, me resulta más polémico que el del Canon occidental de Harold Bloom.

Muestro la selección más reciente. Según veo, escribir en lengua inglesa te da preferencias. No hay escritores de novelas en otros idiomas dignos de lectura. ¿Bolaño? ¿Vila-Matas? ¿Saramago? Pobrecito Harold, la de fusta que le dieron.
